Thank you Lenore for your thoughtful comments. You are so right!! This photo is of my Mother. She started writing about her youth in Shanghai in the 1930's but never completed the story. I decided to continue her biography with the help of memories, letters and documents. My co-writer, Judy Lubao, and I just published it as an Ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It details their exotic lives in Shanghai including their loves and trials during WWII. My Mother loved China hence the title, "Farewell My China," when we finally left in 1951.....

Lisa~There is something compelling about this photograph. Perhaps, too, there's always something inherently sad about the concept of "farewell" or goodbye, especially when coupled with the personal pronoun, "my." An intangible and inherent sadness. A fave & vote.
